Welcome to the Scottish Mediation Register
The Scottish Mediation Register is an independent Register of mediators who meet benchmark standards of quality.
This website gives free access to information about people who practice all kinds of mediation. The data is updated by these mediators at least once a year.
The Scottish Mediation Register (SMR) aims to re-assure people about the quality of the mediator they select. The common standards that the mediators on this site comply with are set by an independent Benchmark Standards Group.
Mediators who appear on the SMR can call themselves a “Scottish Mediation Registered Mediator” and use this logo next to their name.
Where a regulating organisation can certify that a mediator has met the organisation's additional sectoral standards, an additional ‘badge’ from that organisation may be applied beside the mediator’s entry on the Register.
We describe mediation as “a process in which disputing parties seek to resolve their differences with the assistance of a trained mediator acting as an impartial third party. Mediation is voluntary and aims to offer the disputing parties the opportunity to be fully heard, to hear each other’s perspectives and to decide how to resolve their dispute themselves”.
